🎯 WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR? 🎯
We are seeking a passionate Software Engineering Manager for the LaunchBox team in our Palo Alto office. You will lead a team responsible for designing and building best-in-class automation tools for deploying curated Linux developer workstations. This role is a hybrid of individual contributor and people manager, involving the management of a small team of direct reports and contractors, while also actively contributing code to our product.
✅ RESPONSIBILITIES ✅
- Cultivate the success of an internationally distributed team of software engineers (2 contractors, 2 FTE). This team will closely interact with their peers in our other locations in North America and in Japan.
- Act as a leadership figure by engaging people and caring for them.
- Adapt established processes and frameworks to produce quality software.
- Establish a team culture to enable engineers to be successful, engaged, and open to collaboration with other engineering and security teams.
- Inspire software engineering best practices for developing high-quality, maintainable, and safe code that will be deployed to vehicles.
- Along with technical leadership, provide technical guidance to the team.
- Engage and contribute to architecture discussions to empower sound technical decision-making.
- Work with the LaunchBox Product Manager and Lead Developer to deliver the product in an agile fashion and according to agreed requirements, budget, quality, and schedule.
- Relentlessly enforce quality and integrated testing standards and other Woven policies, leading by example and mentoring team members to operate accordingly.
- Engage with TMC partners and other Toyota Group Companies to integrate custom features into the product.
- Engage and participate in strategic activities toward global vision execution.
- Define, align, and track objectives and key results for the team.
⭐ MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS ⭐
- Excellent English communication and people engagement skills.
- Experienced team manager in the software engineering domain. Deep knowledge of extensive software development. Experienced in producing code (Rust, Go, C++, C, Ruby, or Python).
- An empathic leader capable of understanding human beings and identifying their strengths and weaknesses.
- A leader capable of enabling a security-first culture.
- Excellent technical abilities, capable of quickly understanding complex technical situations that usually involve people, processes, and products.
- Experience working in multicultural teams and openness to various cultures.
- Excellent knowledge of project & product management practices.
- Excellent knowledge of modern software development practices in regulated products.
- Mindset for ownership, growth, and a bias for progress.
- Deep commitment to quality.
- Hands-on experience working deploying infrastructure on AWS or GCP.
- Linux power user or SysAdmin background.
💡 NICE TO HAVES 💡
- Experience or certification as a Scrum master.
- Hands-on experience with Windows and Linux administration.
- Hands-on experience building CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure with integrated testing.
- Experience with Cloudformation or Terraform.
- 2+ years of experience in development in Rust.
- Familiarity with virtualization technologies and containerization (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
- Experience supporting large-scale infrastructure environments.
💰 COMPENSATION 💰
The base pay for this position ranges from 140,000−230,000 a year.
Your base salary is one part of your total compensation. We offer a base salary, short-term and long-term incentives, and a comprehensive benefits package. The total compensation offered to an employee will be dependent upon the individual's skills, experience, qualifications, location, and level.
